I’m Ruth Barker-Magowan
👋 I’m an independent HR Consultant with a real passion for helping managers thrive, especially those who’ve stepped into leadership roles without formal people management training. They’re brilliant at what they do, but suddenly they’re leading a team, and their success now depends on how well that team performs.
I help bridge that gap.
Through tailored training and support, I empower managers to become confident, capable leaders… the kind of people managers who are respected, remembered, and who truly make a difference.

How do I do it?
1/ I get to know the business you’re in.
2/ I take time to understand how you learn best.
3/ I make training interactive, fun, relatable, and meaningful, never just a box-ticking exercise.
4/ Every session is personal.
Every session has a takeaway that sticks, something real you can hang your learning on.
One of my proudest moments?
A manager who was completely resistant to training — disengaged, arms folded, clearly getting nothing from the sessions. So I switched it up. I ditched the rigid workbook approach, made it more hands-on, and focused on conversation and interaction. That shift changed everything. Today, that same manager is one of my biggest success stories — tackling complex people issues with confidence and ease.
It’s those moments that remind me why I do this.
When managers feel supported, seen, and empowered with the right tools, they step into their roles with purpose. And when they lead well, everyone benefits, their teams, their business, and their own careers.
If you’re ready to invest in your managers in a way that actually sticks, I’d love to chat.
